What to Drink on a Low-Carb Diet
We’ve had a look at what to eat when following a low-carb diet, and you can find our post on fruits and vegetables you can enjoy here, but as humans we also have to drink. We take a look at what you can and can’t (or shouldn’t) drink when following your low-carb diet.
What You Can Drink
The number one and best drink you can have while following a low-carb diet is water. There are no carbs in water, and it keeps our bodies hydrated. Add some lemon or some of your favourite berries to transform from boring to exciting in seconds. Tea and coffee without milk and sugar also don’t contain any carbs and are perfect hot beverages to enjoy. The wine lovers will be happy to know that an average size glass of wine is also decent in terms of carbs. Diet soft drinks are also low in carbs but contain other ingredients which you may want to steer clear of. Monitor your intake of these and don’t let them become the only thing you drink.
What You Can’t Drink
Milkshakes, energy drinks, soft drinks, café latte’s and iced tea and coffee drinks should be avoided when following a low-carb diet, as these are packed with sugar and carbs. Beer should also be avoided.
Don’t let your drinking habits let you down! Set some rules for yourself and what drinks you will be allowed to consume during the week and over weekends and stick to it.
